ZAM® has superior cut-edge protection for sheet metal. This unique steel coating develops thin film corrosion by-products that are remarkably rust resistant - even over cut edges. This cut edge corrosion-resistance attribute can extend the life of the base metal and coating by many years by preventing corrosion where most coated products are the weakest, at edges and perforations. It also allows ZAM® to be used where particular applications previously lent themselves to post-dipping or heavy galvanized coatings.
ZAM®'s cut-edge protection vs. galvanized steel is simply superior, both in terms of corrosion protection and environmental impact of the used product. This superiority is even more aptly demonstrated in the case of perforated steel sheet metal, where there are many more opportunities for corrosion to start given the higher number of cut edges. For cut or perforated steel panels, ZAM® is the premium choice of coated steel materials.
Excellent corrosion resistance is achieved on the cut edge of ZAM® with a fine zinc protective film that contains Al and Mg leaching from the coating layer, as demonstrated here. This protective layer acts as a cut-edge corrosion treatment, with the thin zinc layer adapting to the edge's shape and size.
ZAM® offers superior corrosion resistance on the cut edge, but what does this difference look like?
Take a look at the appearance of cut edge sections after a salt spray test with almost identical pieces of steel, with the only difference between them being their coating. ZAM®'s cut-edge protection compared to galvanized steel is evident within 1000h of implementation.
