ZAM® has superior cut-edge protection for sheet metal. This unique steel coating develops thin film corrosion by-products that are remarkably rust resistant - even over cut edges. This cut edge corrosion-resistance attribute can extend the life of the base metal and coating by many years by preventing corrosion where most coated products are the weakest. It also allows ZAM® to be used where particular applications previously lent themselves to post-dipping or heavy galvanized coatings.
Excellent corrosion resistance is achieved on the cut edge of ZAM® with a fine zinc protective film that contains Al and Mg leaching from the coating layer, as demonstrated here. This protective layer acts as a cut-edge corrosion treatment, with the thin zinc layer adapting to the edge's shape and size.
ZAM® offers superior corrosion resistance on the cut edge, but what does this difference look like?
Take a look at the appearance of cut edge sections after a salt spray test with almost identical pieces of steel, with the only difference between them being their coating.
